Since the very inception of the Institute in the year1950, the students are pursuing civil engineering courses Civil Engineering courses in this Institute. This Institute successfully met the continuous and steady demand of diploma civil engineers, to supervise and execute different engineering projects, in building up our country during the post-independence era, which was among the very few such Institutes that existed at that time. As we embark upon the twenty first century the scope of civil engineering continues to expand in a developing country like India. On the onset of globalization, industrialization and urbanization assume greater significance. The huge population of our country needs to have basic infrastructural facilities and civil engineers of tomorrow will continue to play an increasingly important role.
The Department has two laboratories under its control:
1. Soil Mechanics Laboratory
2. Concrete and Road Materials Testing Laboratory
The laboratory facilities are good enough for conducting tests as per syllabus requirements as well as for different testing works asked by the external agencies. Almost all tests relating to the test of building materials like brick, cement, sand, stone chips, concrete, tiles, woods etc and road materials like bitumen, stone etc. can be done.
The Soil Mechanics Laboratory is well equipped to prepare full-fledged soil report for buildings on shallow foundation. Necessary tests for road construction are also possible.
